Are we in for another trade war with China?

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/canada-hits-china-100-tariff-electric-cars

Does the retaliation come on commodities again? Is $12.50 Canola the high for the foreseeable future? Is $6 wheat the new normal (Hi there old normal!). I don't necessarily disagree with tariffs when combatting a mercantilist competitor, but by god, shouldn't those who have counter tarrifs applied to them be compensated? Will a Trudeau government really care if its farm commodities that have to bear the brunt of the retaliation? For that matter, does anyone really care? Would the grain buyers/millers/brewers/crush plant owners really go to bat for us?

Forgive me... im grumpy. garbage crop, garbage quality, garbage prices... Garbage in, garbage out. huh, i almost feel like im treated like garbage these days!

We will bare the brunt of the trade war but most people knew new energy products would be produced on the other side of the world where cheap labour is available . China will deal with south America as long as they have the product and play that against us. Lots of options for Chinese edible oil requirements. We are a little fish in a big sea.

For sure about everything in the "new green economy" will have large tariff applied to try to be price competitive with Asia.
China is already the largest producer by far in any manufactured product and has a huge head start on the basic energy products.

That leaves us using heavy tariffs and huge government subsidies' to try get in the game.
Basically taxing ourselves rich?

Rich western economies are regulating a power shift to Asia?

A much better strategy would have been to wait till China is fully invested in electric vehicle market, solar panels and all of the rare earth mining and processing, then pull the rug out from under them by removing all of the green mandates and subsidies and leave them holding the bag with a bunch of useless assets.

China has not sold a car into Canada yet so looks like Trudeau is doing something when he is actually doing nothing. As far as steel and Aluminum our domestic production is owned by foreign owners so it really only helps those companies.

China has built many cities that sit empty...a few cars no big deal.

Here in Manitoba it can take months or years to get a half burned house tore down in the city cores
