but it does show how in the blink of an eye , even after doing everything possible to grow a good crop , poof it’s gone .
Mother Nature holds the cards , not some spread sheet that’s says what can happen if everything goes perfect , which is almost never for most , most of the time . 80/20 at best , 20 being more beneficial

One frost , one 15-20 minute hail storm , a 1/2 day wind storm like stated…. And the farmer loses tremendously.
many newbies and egomaniacs don’t factor that risk in.
DYODD , because Father Time and Mother Nature will spank you at some point , and possibly several times leaving you completely screwed and everyone else extremely well off your hard work .. seen it more times than not .

Absolutely. An older former farmer that was forced to quit before he wanted to told me when I was first starting out lucky to get 2 decent crops in 10. The latest round of propaganda in the industry hooked another generation into feeding the system. Look you can be your own boss, easy credit get whatever iron you need, sit back and let the autosteer and the crop consultant do the work while you Tweet out how good you have it.

SF.. I’m like you, I make it a point to not farm any investor company land. They drive land costs up and do nothing for the community. They can farm it themselves.

I have no problem with son/daughter from Toronto wanting to keep their family land or some Albertan/European family moving into the area and wanting to be apart of the community. But I have a hard time supporting these 100 million dollar investment clubs who are trying to outbid me on the next land parcel deal.

With rents pushing that $150 / ac one has to factor that in on owned land as opportunity cost .
with that factored in the landlord is the only one making money , so is it time to consider rent er all out and let others do all the work and risk for nothing ?

Some serious things to consider

If someone dangled $150 /acre rent in my area , there would be quite a few renting their land out, myself included. I'm only 55 ,but it would be real hard to say no. Four years of shitty crops ( this year we had 15-20 avg) change your perspective on these numbers.
