    Power Canola Poll

Call from my local Cargill rep today. Asking what my marketing plans were on canola. So local Cargill elevator price is $13.82 December. Canola crush plant price is $13.88 at my bin. My local hauler charges 25 cents a bushel to get it to Cargill. So Power Canola to crush plant a 31 cent premium today. To qualify for the program the canola must be grown on land not designated a protected area, forested or wooded, native or bio diverse grassland, on and on. Environment and climate change Canada recognizes all Canadian crop land to have met this criteria but you still must give Cargill your land locations where it was grown to qualify.

My question is simple, would you be willing to give Cargill your land locations to qualify for this program?

My answer was no, interested in everybody else’s!!

I’d be cautious , once they get that detailed info what’s stopping anyone from changing the status quo on land designation ?
There are a lot of Geeboos in Environmentally climate change canada

Here the crushers dockage is very predictable.

Wouldn’t mess with it. Viterra was on the same kick years ago to sell to Europe. The list of “premiums” for hoops you have to jump through to secure a nickel or quarter here and there makes you wonder what bs the buyer has cooked up and what they’re pocketing from the down chain. Beef industry has seen all kinds of the same schemes but ultimately at the end of the day supply and demand reigns and it’s a commodity more so than a specialty product when budgets tighten.

Here the Power Canola premium ranges from 0 - $.30 nearby to June. Two prices at the crusher.
And up and down within that range.
And you get a $500 credit on your inputs account just for signing with more $ per tonnes sold. Their business model does many things to fold you back into it. Acres and inventory information kept current. Hedging strategies so good you don't need a trading account. (You just can't price out any contract outside of exchange hours lol)You can even pay for a membership. And it's all crushed for aviation fuel. Exclusively.
I know I get warm and fuzzy. And I don't even have to think. It's like being a member of a private country club.
Of course I'll take the money if I choose to sell for other reasons.
But they're just running two separate basis levels to encourage loyalty.

The biggest issue there is the fact that we are going to have designated protected areas.
This a glimpse at the future with Bill C 293.

Canada just signed on with Mexico and USA to make an American approach to environmental management (as defined by international bodies like the WHO), of resources to prevent pandemics!

The pact never even made the news.

At first glance an optimistic farmer might not see any negative implications to giving a grain company your land locations. But one must remember, grain companies are federally regulated and I don’t want satellites auditing my land to see if I knocked down a tree or drained a slough. There is no doubt that over time requirements would change under the program and become more onerous. If no farmers are willing to sign up it sends a message.
