Who will be "contact traced"?

I don't want to take way the seriousness of this issue but isn't the conservatives point of parliamentary privilege on releasing the documents about stdc green scam still on the docket? No business is getting done till this is resolved. Then another point of parliamentary privilege is waiting in the wings to be brought forward. this can continue for some time. Hopefully all the business of the house will be shut down due to either an election or prorogation of parliament.

Sadly at my age I no longer trust any politician to do what would be the right and common sense thing for canadian citizens. If the Senate stalls the duly elected house we will have a constitutional crisis.
We need one, the constitution of Canada requires change.

We need an elected, equal, and effective Senate, not an appointed lap dog.

Indeed the west needs a power balance more than ever.

Lots of great ideas that addressed a constitution that enabled colonialism entirely, still does. More complicated today as the rural urban divide is more pronounced than ever it was.

The federal Government later asks the Supreme Court of Canada to examine the constitutional requirements of Senate reform.

April 25, 2014 - In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court rules that Senate reform proposals by the Harper Government — including instituting term limits for Senators and transforming the Senate into an elected chamber — require the approval of at least two-thirds of provincial legislatures, representing at least 50 per cent of the Canadian population. The ruling further details that Senate abolition would require the unanimous consent of the Senate, the House of Commons and all provincial legislatures.

So, in other words, it's hopeless.

And Poilievre won't get a single thing through the "liberal" heavy senate.

I agree, Littledoggie, but somewhere on the bus, PM Harper moved to appoint Senators who did not even reside in the province of representation and failed to fill his quote at the end of this term.

Bring on the Constitutional crisis. It is 139 years overdue.

The last attempt at regional representation in Canada was in 1885 when the Metis and the First Nations protested their treatment. We may have another chance to knock on the door of Canada and request changes.

If you look at the list of grievances Louis Riel sent to Ottawa it would read much the same today.
The farmers at the time were supporters as it was already set up to funnel the profits to the east.

He was a western Canadian hero but we are taught that hanging him was a big important event in our history.

Colonialism is as alive and well today as it was when they hung Louis Riel and eight Chiefs in Battleford without a fair trial with the children hauled out of school to witness it, failed to distribute the 1.3 million acres promised the Metis in the negotiation with the Provisional government, tossed the First Nations on reserves and threw away the key.

Colonialism needs a constitutional crisis.

And now, everyone in western Canada should be able to see it for what it is: a top heavy central government with zero checks and balances.
