I put on considerably more fertilizer this year than I usually do. Worst year to do with July heat and hail storms. Residual nitrogen in tests showing up. Have tried the same nutrient regimen in previous wet years and seen no difference in wheat yields. Thought it was maybe older cultivar with less gas but thinking my usual fertility works for not only soil type but frequency of perils. My dad was always right I guess. Need a bloody special year to get these big yields I hear neighbours getting. Solonetzic soils make you humble.

My area is where big dreams come to die. Do the best you can but don’t set expectations too high. Get some pleasant surprises but don’t plan or spend on it. Seen land trade with expectations of lease revenue and good land rental rates to cover payments but no one with half an idea of this ground bites.
