The main reason Trump wants to put the 25% tariff on Canada is, he thinks the trade deficit the US has with Canada amounts to the US subsidizing Canada.

Trump throws out the amount of the subsidy (US trade deficit) as $200 billion when in reality the trade deficit only favoured Canada by $40 billion in 2023.

How can any body negotiate with Trump when he pulls numbers out of his ass.

I turly feel sorry for you cattle guys when Donald puts the 25% tarrif on, as 75% of Canadian beef is shipped to the US.

What a S##t show !
Its sad really that there is such potential for Trump to right some wrongs and turn the ship around from bad policy. Hopefully he will tone it down a little and everyone reach a consensus. Its true that we as Canadian need to show more independence with better border controls. How Trudeau could phrase Roxham Road as a "irregular" border crossing is lunacy and complete with the RCMP there ready to carry the luggage of illegal migrants walking across the border. We caused that, we need to fix it. We know that we have needed to upgrade the military for years, we need to fix it.
If these tariffs start from the US on Feb 1, then we have to stand up for ourselves even its gonna hurt in meantime or we will never stand on our own again.
Its been said again and again how most of what goes US side is raw and goes though US labor for processing, while what Canada buys from the US is mostly goods processed with US labor.
I believe that until we have a change in gov't in Ottawa that things are going to stay bad cause they are seen by Trump as weak and a pushover.

Canada has been in a deepening recession for nearly two (2) years. The U.S. has been in recession for nearly a year.

Don’t buy into official gov’t economic data we’re fed. The sugarcoating days are over . . . .

Trump is about to give us a margin call that Canada can’t cover.

It is a vehicle for trump to accept bribes while he is president. It is backed by absolutely nothing.

The token’s website includes a disclaimer noting $TRUMP is “not intended to be, or the subject of” an investment opportunity nor a security of any type, and is “not political and has nothing to do with” any political campaign, political office or government agency.

Unlike cryptocurrencies designed for decentralized finance (DeFi) (https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2024/11/08/ai-meets-defi-for-new-financial-intelligence-from-the-us-to-dubai/)or smart contracts, $TRUMP is fundamentally a meme coin. Its primary utility lies in its association with Trump’s name, creating a powerful cultural and emotional connection for his supporters. Beyond speculation, the token offers no inherent use case—no governance rights, DeFi functionality, or utility beyond trading.

I call bullshit too. Far cheaper to buy our landlocked oil than open up equivalent production in the USA. Even expansion in Alaska makes little sense versus buying Canadian oil. If tariffs are necessary to push American producers to increase production when oil is an internationally traded commodity with a defined price. Though this is the best kick in the ass for Canada to grow up and start taking care of itself.

to me it’s very clear, the usa will have, and be the worlds highest inflation.
There are projections that 30% of all jobs will be lost to AI within 3 years. I believe it has already begun. I can see it. We use AI for legal, medical, etc.

This is likely considered for tightening immigration.

Available labour won't be an issue.

I see some saying this will make it much easier to rework and frac idle and older production?

That will be the biggest increase short term?

We are still facing a labour shortfall in alot of sectors.

Tens of thousands of unfilled health jobs. We can use as much AI as practical with no negative effects for several years.

If AI can take care of the mountain of paper that seems to be required in healthcare it will free up a lot of hours?
Lot more going on there than we know.
China and USA competing for dominance.
First to get it all together uses it to gain control.
It's going to use multiples of our current power supply growth curve.
Musk just started one computer that uses equivalent to 200,000 households with plans for 10x expansion.
