    Friday cocktail and end-of-week discussion

Good morning looks like California is heating up.

Trudeau doing interviews in usa every day, even did CNN but can't talk to Canadians.

I personally think he is mentally challenged.

$14.50 at the crusher today for canola if your elevator has 12 they are fuvking you well.

Lets dive into something that's pissing me off.

    Investor farm scam.

    Hear me out.

All connected, real estate agents, maybe FCC, accounting firm, investors, politicians, and banks, all get a cut and you pretend to be a BTO farmer working for them.

Looking into some stuff lately and, amazingly, the farm pays $155, $165, 175 rent each year for three years, lost money last year big time but continues, AG stab payout?

Each year it goes up till, watch in comes land sale huge dollars up to a mill per quarter, first investor gone new ones step in.

So who do these farms really work for?

Some how all are connected, what have others seen in there areas because there is a pattern.

I always thought investors will turn and run when things go side ways but if the feds feed this with Ag stab why leave. They do massive payouts each year it shows but most normal farms get nothing.

Is there a blueprint to this whole system?

This is a topic that needs discussion because these farms do nothing for rural! Do nothing for community, really give nothing back.

Its time for a discussion, because math doesn't math any more!

Ah shit we need a stiff drink.

Come on it cant be just me who is having a hard time understanding this?

Most studies find a family farm 5000 acres makes the most money!

Or will we all be like Europe rent From birth till death and never own your own farm?

If 5000 acres makes the most money, then why do you want more?
If you don’t like the high rent then farm what you own and be happy.

There will come a time where you will be “in” or “in the way”.

If a guy wants to spin his tires for nothing except to say he’s farming more land all the power or to him.

Ok this isn't about me if you can't figure it out. I enjoy my farm and what I have.

Its about a scam and its the dirty secret in Ag that I guess most don't care or want to talk about, but its hurting all of us.

Investor farms aren't really farms! There I said it.

Three or four families on a 15000 acre farm is still 5000 acres per family. If they work together it's still a lot of work but there can still be synergies created by it.

Never has been investor firms in my little pocket.
Having said that, is there foreign money being filtered in to Western land, absolutely. Has come and gone for years.
I know a landlord who uses FCC formulas so definitely they're complicit even if unwittingly.
Hopefully next generation can pick up the pieces as before.

Skfarmer, you're obviously still enrolled in Agstab in anticipation of that big payout.

Do yourself a favour and get an accountant that knows how to milk it, this will speed the process up and then you can stop worrying about how the bigger boys are doing it.

Or, just farm without Agstab like some of us do, and suddenly the worry will disappear.

Skfsrmer.. maybe not a direct line to your msg above, but I’ve been watching some podcasts (turning dirt / truth about ag) that have some guests on there sharing their growth stories. It’s unbelievable what they’ve done.

The farm was basically rented out in the mid 2000s and the. 20 years later the farm is now 50,000+ acres. Not sure how they did it and continuing to do it. Not sure who backstopped them or if they just continued to double down and things worked out and live with a bunch of farm debt.

On a different note.. is there anything specific guys are looking at during the crop production. Myself I’m hoping to find some new crop prices for green peas and maybe some “Cnl specials”

Yeah, it's interesting times but I'm starting to see what they don't do. Much for the community.

I guess just be happy at our size enjoy farming with my boys and brother and soldier on.

The deal would give me 34 quarters in one block so that nice chunk we all dream about.

Should have bought it back years ago but the guy went with the first proposal I found out on Good Friday proposal.monday at 8. Hard to get financing if you just find out.

Any way back home and it's my 40th reunion from the UofS.

The reunion will be great. I remember Ag Bag Drags in the late 60’s and early 70’s. They still have them? Those were the days, my friend. Every kid should have a chance to go to university at colleges like that. University of Regina never had that warm college camaraderie that Saskatoon had. Memories!
