Competition Bureau finally approves the merger. They only have to give up a few elevators around Altona and Nipawin. I didn't know the CPP Board owned 40%, but going down to 12%. Likely a net negative for farmers.

Less competition always a negative for farmers. When there is talk of synergies, and talk of lower costs because of the merger, when merging two companies, they never mention who those synergies are going to be good for (not the farmer). I wish more producer owned terminals were able to survive. Seems they keep getting sold to the silent corporate partner who already owns a network of terminals. Will we ever be able to have anything the likes of SWP or UGG ever again? Would be nice maybe to see profits from moving our grain going to members or shareholders in our community or our province as opposed to owners on the other side of the planet.
