    Fj,
...when Canada announced they were tariffing Chinese EV's, the first thing that went through my mind was when will China tariff canola. Well now we know.

First the EV "incentives", then tariffing that protected subsidized manufacturing....
    picking "losing" winners!

If the technology was economical and any good it would stand on its own merit and would NOT need government crutches of subsidies and protection.

...so canola will pay the price.

Farmers always pay when political disputes involve economic restrictions like tariffs or embargo.
When Russia was our biggest customer we took that one when they embargoed them for Afghanistan.

I still remember a statement on here several years back saying politics plays no role in the price in grain markets .
That’s when I realized there were a few on here being payed politically to troll

Is trump that good a long term strategist to intentionally stir voters into re-electing the liberals with his tariff threats, 51state threats and generally just making Governor Justin cry.
Trump knows the west will want a divorce if the liberals are re-elected.
Divide and conquer, is Trump that smart or will this just be an unforeseen bonus for him.
I see we’re getting beat up with canola tariffs from two sides now . . . . . it seems like there are two kinds of droughts that hurt farmers, weather and political cerebral droughts.
Crop insurance only covers one, but can you imagine the premium charged if Poor Political Performance Insurance had been available for the last nine years.

I think DJT is rubbing his hands at the stupidity of Canadians, in fighting, E VS W, just a matter of time we part ways. Zero in common with ELITE in the East!

Easy pickings...will see how bad SHYT gets.

This won't affect canola. But it affects maple peas, green peas and yellow peas. At least we have other markets with yellow peas. It will hammer green and maple peas. But Ukraine and Russia don't have these products so will be interesting if China doesn't relax this.

Not sure whether to remove my maple pea acreage on my own farm or not. Buyers will be pushing back against the government so should learn more on the next few weeks.

We will move to no bid on all peas tomorrow but mainly trade green and maple peas.

China is on the books for about 2.75 billion CAD worth of Canola meal 2022-2024.
It'll matter...In fact we're limit down at the open. It will be a miracle if we end the week down $30/tonne on Canola. And it isn't so much the actual value lost with half price meal to China even if there would be any appetite for fire sale meal. The logistics of moving meal to new markets are impossible. There are no other markets. Domestic Crush is going to be hit very hard.

Canola down $40/t but I’m sure new prime minister Carney will do everything in his power to help Western Canadian farmers…….hmmm, I hope he knows there are farmers on the prairies.
