Dairy and Supply management are still receiving payments from the last trade deal. These current tariffs should mean another round of direct payments for that sector. They have a better lobby.
USA farmers are getting direct subsidies every year but are recognized as an economical driver for the manufacturing industries. In Canada not so much which is why we are dependant on Deere case etc etc from the USA.
Groups representing farmers don't have a wide angle vision of the value farmers give this economy and don't lobby for it .
By now we should have export sales reporting, compensation for our environmental contribution and an equivalent business risk management program that is proactive as opposed to reactive.
