If the currency is a measure of a country's economic strength (it is), then these charts are interesting to me.

CAD is trading at higher levels than Trump's inauguration.


The DXY is down considerably as well.

I don't care for the terms oversold or overbought (I think they are overused), but I think it is the weakening of US influence worldwide and the poor economic indicators south of the border.

As far as oil, I don't know.

The "Drill, baby, Drill" narrative from south of the border does not support increased oil imports from Canada.

The Canadian dollars is closely correlated the the oil markets

if oil is stronger - dollar higher
weaker - lower dollars

'Drill Baby Drill' doesn't correspond to potential $50 oil stateside. A lot less rigs / fracking. Alberta oil will also be hit hard over the energy market fallout. OPEC cartel tensions will be high as they are no longer a global monopoly. Can sense hard times in the energy sector incoming . . . .

All these big plans to build back America again would require a lot of energy. A lot of these plants would be built far from the energy supplies required. Guess who would have to cover there asses Wonder how that 200% tarriff on JD tractors built in Mexico would work ?

Canada is mostly gas, service industry is booming, LNG starting up in a couple of months, we are happy, for now
