Colonialism in Canada is identified by the action of Ottawa placing the interests of Central Canada over those of Western Canada.
With the China / Canada tariffs on canola meal, oil, and peas at 100% all the result of Ottawa's 100% EV protectionism bill, the actions to refuse to address the issue by rescinding the bill, Colonialisms' trump card has been played on Western Canada by Ottawa.
A multi-billion-dollar primary production and value-added industry in western Canada starts with farmers, factories, the service sector, and the logistics network production that supports a diverse sustainable rotation.
Canola Crush and the recent billion-dollar investments into the Made in Canada Protein supercluster intended to diversify the protein industry into plants and this includes peas: Peas that depend upon China's export market to be a viable crop. All this will be blatantly sacrificed by Ottawa's refusal to rescind the ban on Chinese EVs despite higher costs to consumers for EVs to protect a developing industry.
“So what does that mean for Saskatchewan? Well, we grow a little over half of the crop, which for us means about 91,000 jobs – directly and indirectly – and an economic impact of about $19.8 billion,” Roberts said. “The reach of canola is very significant in the province.” (1)
