I have said this before but at the risk of sounding like a broken record: people in central canuckistan absolutely loath Western canadians, viewing them only as rural rubes only fit to be their slaves. I grew up in ontariowe, went to high school there, and even back then western canada was absolutely irrelevant according to them. People there, including myself at the time, knew nothing (zero, zip, nada) about western canada. Today a few of them know that Alberta is the tax farm in canuckistan, but since it is inhabited by lower life forms (according to them) we ought be grateful to give them anything we have of value. That ain't ever going to change. So...the only option, as it has ever been, is western separation.

Our relationship with eastern Canada basically ended when people no longer went that way to seek employment as was common till probably around late 1950's?
My father and all his friends went to work in factories there to pay for University.
The flow has been west for generations now.
We really don't associate personally with each other.

I dont believe for 1 second that the canola tariff is because of the chinese evs. They didnt even bother to tariff seed which is the vast majority of their canola import.
They are up to their usual shenanigans.
That being said...
NOW would be a smart time for the libs to swing a deal with china. Cant really lose here if you are carney.
1) teslas just went up in price in canada ( and no more subsidy)
2) no more carbon tax so it really looks even more like a scam
3) the big battery plant in quebec sureee looks like its not gonna happen
4) who cares how we align with usa. May as well open up BYD ev imports because usa is just fisting us anyways and an entry level BYD with 300 kms of range is about 25 k to get into... while entry level tesla with 300 kms range is about 65 k.
5) and this is the big one.
YOU WOULD GAIN POLITICAL FAVOUR WITH THE FARMERS .
Carney is staring a gift horse in the mouth here.
plus.
You would be basically making evs twice as affordable in the markets ( vancouver/montreal/toronto) that would utilize them AND be helping the environment WITHOUT any direct subsidies.
You want to get people into evs? Import BYD chinese evs and THEN give a subsidy of 2500 toward the upgraded charger install.
How do the libs not see this?

China has always had an import tariff of 9% on raw canola seed. This was a major issue 20 years ago when soybean imports from the US gained a more favorable rate of 3% when compared to canola. We are so used to it that it does not seem to get mentioned any more. I have not heard that this has been lifted. Import duties is how china, like many other nations, raises revenue as opposed to income taxes.

Colonialism was built into the Confederation. Most nations with as much geography as we do have have bicameral balance (Australia and the USA): urban and rural counterbalance in the legislative process. However, in Canada, essentially, we are a city State: urban Ontario and Quebec rule.
An equal-elected effective Senate Reform would be a place for rural to have a voice. But will only happen if we have Premiers who believe in addressing the issue and demand this be addressed and lead. So essentially never. Clyde Wells and Don Getty Premiers who led the charge for Constitutional reform, are one in a billion.
Provincial Autonomy remains an option. Urban voters will likely be a barrier.
?
Fair to say the ongoing massive capital drain from Canada will increase from the tariff wars, and it is now the arena we are in.
Ottawa knows full well the damage they are inflicting on western Canada, they have chosen their path deliberately.

libs where screwed either way if they let the chinese cars come in they come batteries included which makes the production of there battery plants quite useless. Billions wasted again of course not much canola grown around Ottawa anyway so what the hell . China uses any excuse to push the market down and they get away with it every time (winning!) Still think that might be the sleeper crop this year don't know why tho.
