I am seeing some people shifting acres from peas to lentils. In light of the issues with china pea tariff this makes sense. But its a bit of getting out of the pan and into the fire.
If this happens market is likely headed to 30-35 cents for small and large green. Acres will likely be handled better by the red market. Buyers have run for the hills on both old and new crop purchases as we don't have an Indian market for green lentils anymore. Prices have needed to decline as our traditional demand simply wasnt paying 60 cent+ anymore.
Are growers recognizing the potential shift to these values?
