    Trump announces U.S. reciprocal tariffs on 185 countries – Trade War Escalates

    Ag Commodity Corner+ Episode 2

    President Trump announced aggressive elevated tariff rates on nearly all U.S. trading partners, including a total of 54% on China.

    China retaliated with a 34% tariff on all goods imported from the U.S. The discussion also covers 45Z, USDA Planting Intentions results, the crude oil and stock market, and weather.

      More of the same typical American reaction. I will limit my comments towards the US / Canada relationship. Yes we have a trade surplus with the US, but when one takes out the oil Canada ships into the US, the US would have a trade surplus with Canada. They like to talk about the dairy tariffs, but they haven't had to pay any tariffs as the US dairy products going into Canada have not reached the quota established in the USMCA that Trump signed a few years ago. We will see how bad things will go with world trade. Its a huge wake up call that we had entirely too much reliance on the US for our goods. Trudeau did all he could to make trade agreements with other countries NOT happen and we now need a reset and rediscover reliable trading partners. China trade managed correctly can have merit. Just think of how much better it would have been if we had not do the US's bidding and arrested the Huawei woman. Blindly banning Chinese ev's will do nothing for Canada's interest other than protect the main US car makers and Tesla. For me to see the US pick a fight with the world over has massive consequences. I could be wrong but I feel this display of massive arrogance will not get the intended outcome.

        why are we still protecting marketing boards and sell out all our other industries. This is the major trade irritant. and to sa that Canad does not colect much tarrifs on dairy is because the tarriffs are so high like 248 percent, I am tired of being sold out because of this, it has to go.

            Tariffs are only one tool drug restrictions are another in Europe and China uses chem residuals, disease , weed and dockage every time they want to restrict flow and push down prices. Lots of ways to skin a cat . Trade surplus? we are a pop of 40 mil to USA 380 mil there will always be a trade surplus. Maybe every time we send grain reps to promote our product around the world we should through in a lawyer to get the fine details worked out first. Our country is just like farmers price takers not makers gonna be hard to change.

              Dairy tariffs of 300% dont kick in unless USA sells enough dairy product into canada to HIT THRESHOLD where the tariffs will kick in.
              everything trump and his mouthpieces say about access to canadian dairy is a lie.
              they have yet to sell enough tariff free dairy product to hit the 298% threshold.

              Let dairy go. Its a non starter on both sides of the border.

              The wisConsin diary herd is almost as large ( 1.27 million ) vs the entire canadian herd ( 1.38 million) .
              let that sink in.

              A state roughly half the size of alberta has almost the same size dairy as alll of canada.

              even if they had full acess to canadian dairy they would probably only gain about 20% market share anyways... it would be a drop in the bucket to their economy.

              Now that you know this you should roll your eyes and laugh everytime you hear any american idiot talking about canadian dairy tariffs.

                They never hit the threshold because of the tarriffs

                  You can feed the U.S. beast but you will never satisfy it, because it's appetite is insatiable.
