    CWB...wHY Bother?

    Incognito,

    This turns my stomach!

"If you're just going to offer the same or less value than anyone else, why bother, I guess is the idea," explained wheat board spokeswoman Maureen Fitzhenry.

    What happened to CWB services?

1.) Return all profits back to "Designated Area" barley growers... which the CWB claim multi-nationals are in a position to take growers to the "cleaners"...

    Whats up here!

The majority of CWB Directors are too lazy to even offer growers CWB services... to arbitage market prices back to the farm gate... with production contracts that assure the CWB be a major marketer of barley in western Canada?

2.) CWB benefits in Transportation and handling assure the CWB of the cheapest and most efficient handle of any marketer in western Canada...

    And this is worth nothing?

3.) According to the CWB... Its market powers are second to none globally... and the CWB says this "good will" value built up over half a century is valueless and the relationships worth absolutely nothing.

Does the CWB even understand even the first thing about marketing at all?

Did Goodale so spoil these people over the last 12 years he ruled the CWB... that they are clueless of how a premium is actually attained in the world market place the CWB must compete in... regardless of whether or not there is a "single desk" in western Canada?

How can this logic do anything but prove CWB management is incapable of marketing grain in any other way... but by undercutting and giving my wheat away as well as my barley if this is their attitude?

Are these people at the CWB management level serious?

Spend a eavning with Ralph and listen to him answer questions and that will turn your stomach I dont know if it was the rum or just his comments that made me ralph my cookies.
To all my sinics No it wasnt a liberal fundraser but a Regina Charity.
Some one please show the general public what a schmozel the CWB has been for farmers. Its funny when the only ones who really care about it are the buyers of our grain doesnt that tell the real story.

Interesting how DOW can utilize its "competition" in terms of transportation and logistics and still be able to market specialty canola oil alongside Cargill.

Yet the CWB claims they can't do it. They can't compete with the 'competition. When in fact, if you have a customer, and if you have a supplier, and you can provide value to both, the logistics in between is simply a line item on the budget, not the reason to run away scared as the board of directors have gone public with in the media today.

T4....What about those producers that want/voted to market their product thru the CWB?? Their wishes are now being abandoned by their marketing agency....that should endear them even more to their agency!!This kind of leadership is simply outrageous!!!! And the CWB gurus expect others to feel sorry for them?? UNBELIEVABLE!!!

The CWB knows if they go head to head with anybody they will lose, give up barley so they can keep wheat a couple years longer?
By the way I got a DPC cheque today and it still had Measners signature on it?

            Ron,

In our business we often split up which services we aquire... to diversify and keep options avaliable. THis means often the cheapest input... or best prices are not the determining factor on who we do business with.

Clearly the CWB can contract using production contracts... and have a good chunk of the barley market if they want it. The efficiencies of scale should mean they can be a market leader... if they want the business.
