    On the Road With Measner

News for Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Ex Wheat Board CEO in Elmwood
    Written by Mark Douglas

The man who was harvested out of the top job at the Canadian Wheat Board is coming to Elmwood.

Former Wheat Board President and CEO, Adrian Measner will speak at a public meeting at the (Owen Sound) Elmwood Community Centre tonight at 8:00.

Measner says whatever happens out west in agriculture will eventually affect Ontairo agriculture.

Measner says if Ottawa's action against the Wheat Board is successful, the government will eventually "go after" similar institutions in Eastern Canada.

Measner opposed the Conservative government's intention to end the board's wheat and barley marketing monopoly, and allow farmers to sell their own grain in an open market.

Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl fired Measner in December.

Measner says he's disappointed the federal government has not been up front on this issue, saying they instead work around corners and bypass sections of the Wheat Board act.

Representatives from the federal government, and a current Wheat Board member, are expected to be at the meeting tonight as well.

How much wheat and barley do you think is getting sold at this?

Yesterday Ritter couldn't stop talking about business, being a business, making business decisions.

This has nothing to do with business, it is pure politics.

The day after getting trounced in the barley vote and nothing has changed. Farmers money getting blown so the CWB can cheer on Measner.

Mr Measner needs a geography lesson. Ontario moved to a dual market years ago.
