    Lucky boys lucky.
If we in Sask could just get rid of our NDP and their useless Ideas that don't work. This plant attached to the Heavy oil up-grader in Regina and then shipped down the SOO line to USA would have worked to.
But that would be in a perfect world.
We have Lorne and the Boys in ours.
    Way to be progressive Alberta!

Wouldn't be able to attend but will be very interested in how Dominion/others approach issues:

        1) How these new businesses approach communities and the local residence level of acceptance.

        2) Water issues. Might also include other environmental issues.

        3) Information about the amount and types of grain/oilseeds required and how they will communicate/contract with farmers.

        4) Community investment opportunities.

        5) Uses of by products and co products (meal and dried distillers grains).

Good questions. I will take them forward to the meeting and report back. They have also indicated they will have CO2 scrubbers for their plant and will be selling the collected CO2 back to the oil industry for injection. They also do indicate that they have a back up site close to Edmonton if there are problems with the Innisfail site. These open houses will obviously be important in convincing the local area in the value of the plant. I also did not mention that this is a 380 million dollar plant.

            Biorefinery planned for Innisfail

            Drawing contributed
A proposed biorefinery north of Innisfail would include a 379-million-litre ethanol plant, a 379-million-litre canola crush facility and a 379-million-litre biodiesel plant. Public meetings to discuss the project are planned for the Innisfail Legion next Tuesday and Wednesday and for the Black Knight Inn in Red Deer next Thursday.

The corporate partners behind a biorefinery complex proposed for the Innisfail area have confirmed their intention to build in Central Alberta.

A news release issued by Riverstone Holdings LLC, The Carlyle Group and Dominion Energy LLC said Innisfail is their choice for the multimillion-dollar ethanol and biodiesel plant.

“The rail access, close proximity to large quantities of feedstock and a skilled local workforce made Innisfail . . . an ideal location for our newest venture with Dominion Energy,” Stephen Schaefer, managing director of Riverstone, said in the release.

On March 27, Red Deer County council gave first reading to a bylaw to rezone 421 acres three km north of Innisfail for the biorefinery. Bob Stroup, Dominion Energy’s director of business development, said then that Innisfail was the best option but an alternate site existed near Edmonton.

The recent news release said the biorefinery will include a 379-million-litre ethanol plant, a 379-million-litre canola crush facility and a 379-million-litre biodiesel plant.

It added that 90 people are expected to work at the complex on a full-time basis, with 200 indirect jobs also needed for servicing requirements. Employment during the construction phase was estimated at 400.

Curtis Chandler, president of Dominion Energy, said the facility would be the largest of its type in North America. He praised the town, county and province for their support and said construction could start this summer, with commercial production commencing by the fall of 2008.

Stroup said previously that byproducts of biofuel production at the complex would include distillers grains and canola meal that could be used as livestock feed, carbon dioxide for oil well stimulation, water suitable for liquid hog feed and glycerin that could be used for power-generating biogas plants.

Public meetings to discuss the project are planned for the Innisfail Legion next Tuesday and Wednesday and at the Black Knight Inn in Red Deer next Thursday. All are scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to call 356-1018 or 1-866-975-1018.
