It seems AWB has been caught out again for making illegal payments to a transport company, this time in Iran.
A million-dollar transaction's been halted, after a New York bank noticed the payment, which breached United States sanctions.
Shadow primary industries minister Kerry O'Brien says it's hard to believe effective protocols weren't put in place to detect this sort of thing after the Iraq scandal.
"It's remarkable that so soon after that scandal that another one appears to have been on the verge of looming," he said.
"It's only because banking interests stopped the payment that we didn't find ourselves – through AWB – in another international trade scandal with our wheat market."
