when are you going to the field

Curious to see when producers think they might be in the field. Give your location. I'm at Lacombe, Alberta and although things are still very wet they have improved in the last few days. Water on the surface would suggest there is still some frost. I think we might be able to start this coming week although we will have to go around some wet areas.( I farm on a sandy loam) We have too much wheat and argentine canola to go in the ground to have the luxury of waiting. Were checking winter wheat fields today and for the most part they look good. Seeing a fair number of weeds so will need to be spraying ahead of the drill.

    I'm in SW Manitoba.

    Started seeding Wed evening.

Have seeded 465 acres of Canola.

Things are fairly dry here, but on the one quarter I did manage to get stuck in the only place in the field I could have gotten stuck in.

So things are starting normally for me.

Could definitly use a good rain here.

I farm in the Kelvington area, in the moist(stinking wet as always) black soil zone, on clay-loam soil. As I complained about on other threads, we are looking at the 20th of May IF it doesn't rain or snow like they say for Monday, or at any time between now and then. My winter wheat appears good, and my chem-fallow land is a swamp beyond saturation. I think the land needs to be seeded to something even if we push July, just to dry out the soil a mite. Polish canola up to the 20th June, Barley to the 10th, oats to the 10th. Beyond these dates would be greenfeed I suppose. Any other suggestions? What should I do under the worst case scenario?

We're in southern MB, east of Adam Smith. We just finished planting oats into dry-ish soil. Most of the big outfits around here have had their spring wheat and barley in the ground for a week. Drills have been sitting for days waiting to seed canola. Monday will see the dust flying and the canola will be going in.

It would be nice to see rain. Winter wheat needs the N washed in a liitle better. It's starting to look really dry here.

South West Watson Sask. Fields look not bad from the road in places, but anyone venturing into the fields are getting stuck right away. The unplanted acres from last year look really scairy. Ground is saturated black soil so holds moisture all too well. Plenty of ditches still running. My harrow will get a work out this year. Still have a week work to do on machinery anyway. The forcast on mysask.com calls for possible heavy rains on thursday. I turn religous on times like this.

Southern Alberta--was really dry all fall and winter. A few guys were seeding the last week of March, even some potatoes planted then. Then we had 3 separate snow storms. Moisture conditions excellent now, seeding in full swing the last few days. We're probably about 2 weeks behind most years.

Lots more dryland acres going in now with the moisture. Before the snows, most farmers were reluctant to recrop stubble fields because there was less than a foot of moist soil. Now lots of those acres are going into peas, except that seed is very hard to find. There's not much in the bins either when prices are $7.50. There might even be the odd field of canola going in on summerfallow.

North Edmonton area things are drying up, though only the odd tractor in the field harrowing. Most guys will start seeding this week into good moisture with more potholes than we've had in several years.

red river valley of mb - a few guys haven't started yet, but i'm almost half done 5000 acres. had a great week last week, seeing a welcome shower today but don't think it will be enough. although i should know by now to be careful asking for rain - it has a habit of not knowing when to stop around here.

our situation is sure different this year than in the past 3 but i'm feeling your pain, guys in ne sask.

Started seeding yellow mustard on friday here in Southwest Sask.

Started peas yesterday. Nice seeding conditions , best spring moisture conditions for a few years.

Hey prairie types. East-Central Ontario, barley's all in, got the liquid manure all out today and we'll start planting corn tomorrow. Probably be at the soybeans late next week. Very dry but still very cool.
