prices are all converted to Cdn. funds, usually $ per liter

here are some highlights. ( if you want to call them that)

Now on my 800 acres of peas and 200 of clearfeild canola i paid 7-8$ more an acre than i should have for the select and 3$/acre more for the Pursuit.

1,000 acres x 10$ = 10,000$ extra and if i have to spray for some bug i will have to donate more.

down right Criminal, and our govt. continues to let the theives make the rules.

What exactly is causing the higher prices?
What part of the supply chain is gouging us?

On the surface it looks like something is either preventing arbitrage from happening or that the cost of doing buisness is just that much higher in Canada.

It is both.

To get approval for products in our western Canadian market... it takes years and millions to get through the red tape.

If it were easy to make these ag products... fert., fuel... cheap... we would. Canada is a small market $$$wise... spread over a huge area.

FNA is not innocent in this conspiracy either. The cost of doing business in Canada may be higher for chemical companies but for those of us that were willing to take our business to the US and bring our own product across the border for personal use FNA soon put a stop to that because they were not able to profit from it. Such was the case this spring when we were unable to purchase Clearout 41 from a Montana retailer for the 3.25/litre that we purchased it last year. The manufacturer of this product saw fit to enter into a exclusive retail partnership with FNA where they could charge the producers 4.25-4.50/litre plus membership fees to belong to their organization. Want to talk about extortion, lets talk FNA!!!!

I told you guys this has been happening for years.
Latest is chem companies who wanted changes to happen to OUI program and stupid Canola growers Wheat and all agreed that the good chem companies would work with farmers well boys the new program isn't even in effect and the Chem companies have changed certain things and wola no cheap generics for a couple of chemicals

some of you can bash the FNA all you want, but without them and OUI we would still be paying 8-9 $ /liter for glyphosate

You would think a study like that would be in every farm paper.
10s of thousands stolen from every farmer across the country.
It won't be in the country guide, will it.

i would have to fill my 500 gal. bulk gas tank 4 times and let theives empty it 4 times to equal the price differance on that 1000 acres.
strange. i would feel like taking a shot at the gas theif. but its ok for the chem company to do it.

How can this be happening?

sawfly: Evidently, you didn't elect the right government...or Member of Parliament. Go after your MP and make him "walk the plank" or kick his a** out. We have been robbed too many times...maybe it IS time to do something about it.

What really galls me is our local co-operative farm supply outlet that maximize its prices and then turns around and give a wee rebate in cash and the rest in a small payment to reserves (equity). This does not help current operational costs.

Good question MBFarmer1. Will dig a bit tommorrow morning. Part of the GROU and replacement of OUI is north american labelling, and while there are more products getting the labels on the product seems to be a bit of the power the chem companies still have. Of course they won't be on this year they say because they are printed already and stuck on.

Of course anything is legal if you don't get caught at the border.
