Sounds like a reasonable deal to me!

Just got off the phone with JRI Killarney MB.

Have come out with a $45 over Dec. bly deal for 6 -row malting barley delivered Nov. Dec.less an $18 (I think) basis feed or malt. Thought the premium may be more for Metcalf.

This would put the contract at $3.42 feed or $4.42 for malt 6-row.

Net price to me , delivered to Killarney MB which would be about a 2 hr round trip for me.

Am thinking about booking 25% of anticipated production.

that's a great basis for feed. doesn't that area deliver at $5/t under?

adam do you know where they're going with that barley, i.e. tbay, u.s., churchill, west coast?

also what's the vomi discount? we've been seeing some great new-crop bids for any vomi barley around winnipeg (up to $3.50/bu), which i'm surprised at given the weather. although i haven't seen any real good looking barley crops around here lately either.

            btjadenlepp,

Guy from JRI called looking to see if I had peas, I don't, so I asked if they have anything for new crop open market malting barley.

            He said $45 over feed.

But I should have gotten the exact particulars. I'm working with the numbers (he quoted)of $4.40 bu for malt and $3.42 for feed delivered Nov. and assumed basis by looking at todays Dec Barley close.

Was asking about canola and winter wheat as well and my scribble notes seem to have overlaped and I'm not sure if a couple of numbers are for canola or barley, dumb huh!

            I'll find out better tommorow.

But $4.40 Nov delivery for malt seems profitable to me even at 60 bpa, and I think whats out here is better than that.

oh yeah, I think he mentioned a 20 cent discount for vom,

didn't ask about where it was going.

The reason I posted this was it is the first concrete price/contract for new crop malt offered around here.

not sure about $5 under, but I haven't dealt barley in a couple of years.

Don't forget that the barley futures contract has changed from a Lethbridge pricing point to Saskatoon. Makes a big difference in basis - real important when you're comparing previous year's to this year.

I have seen barley purchased for export at the bottineau n.d.terminal at 3.95 canadian including exchange. This was net to producer, all fall, by new years it was over $4. Our conlin barley went 115/acre, do the math. Now you know why i hate the board. Remember this was for export. Our companies Paterson, Pioneer Saskpool are all looking to be in the same game as the u.s. buyers and sellers. We won't have to drive across the border, we don't with oats let the grain companies find the sales stateside or offshore. Like all the other crops we grow!

No wonder the maltsters are upset the CWB won't be able to secure that $2.80 malt for this year. Just as long as there is no injunction from the court case. BTW, how is that going? Anyone hear?

Truly amazing, you can come up with all this information. Where, we live, you can't even get past the steno, at our local highthruput terminal. Most of the time you can't even get the info on delivering. Manager on holidays, Harry loading cars, Joes busy on another line, phone somebody else. Phone somebody else, they aren't even that company any more, some other entity that has surfaced, another useless grain company. Mostly I have to depend on the drivel, that I glean from this site believe it or not, to keep up to date. I am told continually there is no BS on this forum, all info can be taken to the bank! Yadh, yadh, yadh,,,wink, wink, wink

Wow Burbert, you sure have jumped to alot of conclusions on this site, and all without even getting past the steno!

Maybe this could be your problem here?

Or maybe, if you communicate with the people at your local HTP like you do with the people here on Agriville, it may explain why you can't get past the steno.

                            Think about it.

Now back to the real world,

                              The JRI offer is,

basic feed $18 under dec for oct,nov dec delivery with a $35 premium for malting.

basic feed $22 under mar for jan, feb, mar delivery with a $45 premium for malting

they are sending me a blank contract for me to read over.

                              ---------------------------

Just to note, also sold Canola for $9 even a bushel December delivery.

the deal was $22 under Jan, the market was rallying so I sold some at the market.

Sorry forgot to ask about the peas.
