    Gary Pike, Mr. Smarty pants?

I finaly had some time to sit and read last night and had to giggle to myself. Found an artical in "New Ground" where Gary Instals his wisdom of haveing his clients pre-buying in mid summer '08. Also how this gives his clients a huge advantage and that most other farmers are incompotent to wait out their buying stratigies.(This is the arogant way he comes accross) I know why now that Cargil was pushing in June/July to pre-buy fert, as they are tied to many of Pike's clients. I wounder how their balance sheets look now?
Then I find an artical in a different information source where Pike is basicaly telling producers to hold off on purchases and let the fert market come down. Do you think he is getting a little backlash from some of those 20,000ac farmers who booked fert upon his recomondations in mid summer. Already you can shave $200/tn of the fert price from summer. My guess is that that is why Pike went broke trying to farm himself. Sometimes trying to be the biggest, best and first to the plate can give you the shits!
You can give all the advice you want but when you are playing with millions of dollars of farmers money he may be going up shit creek in a deflated rubber dingy.

I'm not one of Pikes clients or have interest in becoming one.
But sometimes those interviews are taken a month before printed and then at my place sometimes it's a week before it gets read.
Information gets stale quickly, now more so than ever!
I'm sure that pike will lose some clients over information that he has given but he might gain some over others, he's selling advice.

One word of advice and take it for what you want but don't judge until your fertilizer is bought and in the ground.
It's a long time until May and things went on some wild swings last year.

I have read a lot of his articles, and the gist I get is he believes in the one size fits all theory, which goes something like this: If you don't farm 15 thousand acres, WTH are you even doing trying? This holier than thou attitude makes me crazy. Nothing like making people who farm smaller land bases feel like crap. LOL, he probably went broke farming, Good one. Maybe he should be ag minister someday. For which party though?

Who the hell pays for Pikes services, what a joke.

If these enrolled farmers had to report these type of "marketing expenses" to a board of directors, they would be thrown out of their CEO positions.

                  Grainbeetle,

THINK REAL HARD ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST SAID.

                  Look in the mirror.

Now... we just lost $75/t... to CWB mismanagement and lack of honest payment... on the wheat contracted to the 'single desk'.

80% acceptance on CWRS... when we have the corner on the world's high quality wheat markets?

How can I justify this CWB mismanagement to my family... when it is a clearly more blatant badly spent investment than any advice Pike has ever given his farmer clients!

AT LEAST growers can tell Pike to get lost... if he does not do his job!
