    Winter Wheat acres up????

    http://www.fcc-fac.ca/newsletters/en/express/articles/20081219_e.asp#4

Does Statscan think anyone will believe this. I know I have not forgot the weather this fall. No one around here had any crop off the fields in early September to seed Winter Wheat into. I'd bet a beer that the real numbers are less than 1 million acres.

North East Sask. here maybe 20 percent of last year. May be more somewhere but not by my place.

Southern part of the prairies has a little more lee way in terms of seeding dates. In those areas lack of moisture often determines the amount of acres. I would agree Parkland acres will be down. On the other side of the coin I do see a more stable group of core growers who will do their best to seed if at all possible.

Actually both the Statistics Canada report and the article show the 20 %
decline in witner wheat acres you talk about. Western Canada 2008
wheat acres are estimated to be 1.25 mln acres, down from 1.5 mln
acres in 2007. Only Alberta winter wheat acres are up 20,000. Both SK
and MB acres are down by 25 %. See page 20/table 3.
