    BACKGROUND:

From the thread on domestic processing below:

    "Mustardman,

    "No.. "processing plants""

SO the fractionation plants in SK and Manitoba... that make different pulse fractions don't count?

The many pea and lentil splitters are just inland terminals?

Where do you think the future of our pulse industry is... it is in fractionation and further processing!

    Low glycemic index flours;

Gluten free products that don't tear up people's intestines.

DId you know there is already a $1B market for these Celiac/Diabetic products!

    www.kinnikinnick.com

If we had any brains... instead of buying gold/stocks... we would be part of this... the most exciting industry... going forward... ever!

ANd the CWB doesn't have a clue... once again.

When asked to supply these products... to one of the major Asian Tiger countries... The CWB sales staff just were angry... cause it was going to 'steal' the wheat market from the CWB!

This is who we have working for us... at the CWB.... people who are so stuck on the 'single desk'... that they have forgotten about the health of those they supply!

The CWB 'single desk' system is just plain immoral... and wrong. We need our marketer to be competitive... and selling/processing all our crops... to maximise our families farm assets!"

So let me see if i got this straight.

Company A:located in canada buys ingredient from local farmer, processes it and then exports to chindia and gains the great phrase of the day "value added".More money stays in country, everybody does better.

Is that the basic point that is trying to be made?I'll ASSUME yes.

      Linear logic at its finest.

      Now lets apply asymetrical logic.

Company B:located in chindia buys ingredient from canadain farmer brings it home processes it,ships it back to canada and cuts the throat of company A.Bankrupcie of company A has ripple effect at local, prov, federal levels as well as banking and stock market.Everybody is way worse off than if company A was never set up.

      Sound far fetched?

Its not,its happening every single day.

So it's better off that Canadian's not even be allowed to try and compete?

What a great can't do it attitude. No wonder our kids are all being wussified.

          Fransisco,

Very Good point... we are so brainwashed... that we seldom even try to be the new innovators!

As long as the process... is not highly labour intensive... is there any good reason why we cannot compete with anyone on the planet?

AND why... should the CWB 'single desk'... be allowed to get in the way... and protect the likes of ADM, Cargill, Conagra, or any other mill owner in Canada?

          How could we be so....?

There may be reasons but my point is that we don't really know until we try.

There's all sorts of success stories out there as well as the failures, focusing in on just one side or the other doesn't do us any good.

I'm just saying its a tough world, with many things to consider.

Focusing on what the chindians "cant" do is the future.

And they cant magically make grain or coal or oil or uranium. Why would they want to tear up 10,000 dollar an acre apple farms to grow barley?Their way ahead buying low gross crops from other counties and exporting high value stuff.

But they can take fish out of our lakes ship them home process them and then ship them back to our supermarkets at a profit over us.True story. And it takes way less than a minute for a worker to process a fish.

                C.P.;

                Just answer the question:

Why should present industry, be protected by the CWB 'single desk'... and prevent me and any co-operative... from creating and producing world class products?

We must be able to take our own produce, process it and move up the value chain to healthier food products... if that be our objective!

What 'moral' right does the CWB have to stop us?

There is beginning, in some quarters, I have heard, a quiet consumer backlash against 'Made in China' consumer goods. Pars

It is not so quiet in many households.

What are we going to do about THIS?

As long as Alberta and Sask. hide under the 'single desk'... nothing will be done...!

Agriculture is shared jurisdiction... in the BNA Act...
