    Canola

Lately canola market is too wild for me and make me vomit and exit from rollercoaster. Also eastern Europe is in trouble so take pie. Been lost .14 cent drop after first call Viterra in the morning. It kind of carrot in front of horse.

I am taking the dollar spread from Mar to May on my basis contract.
I don't believe the planting intentions canola must be cut back in acres in my area. Pioneer Dixon has 11 dollar basis.

The BS coming out of the Canola Growers the last few years that we have to get extra acres to sustain the prices and keep our markets is plain BS.
What we now have is marginal areas growing 20 bushel to 25 canola. These guys think their making money.
But whats happening is their adding extra tons to the whole picture.
Also some of the newer techniques are increasing yield some what.
But with the wrecks in South America. Come On Would rain in August help your crop? Yea fill whats their but no extra grain.
Also why is the USDA so Slow to cut the SA crop. Is it to prop up the Corn Acres so that American farmers dont seed Soya wall to wall. Thus supporting all the high priced fertilizer etc?
Any way the Canola Crop for 09 will go down as a large one with little profit.
08 was the year of the big money!

Value of a dollar in 1980 versus 2008 is .37 adjusted for inflation. Canola at 9.00 =3.33 in 1980. My ,my how efficient we have grown, what a great price we are getting for our products. This will beg the question should one throw money away by planting a crop or conserve cash and live to fight another day.

Agree with SF, World end stock for 08 to 09 for soybean somewhat bullish but turn out reverse and these USDA report BS.. for example I don't believe corn number in report like Iowa has flood in 08 year, it is bs..

Got quote from Viterra and was told, up .10/bus. And check Viterra My Portal and it didn't showing .10 cent up. So went feed cows and came back, we discuss the offer, then we drive to Viterra to sign the contract but in half way down on the road, they send email to me saying canola drop .08/bus. When I arrived Viterra and told me the market drop .14/bus. Make me puzzle as to why My Portal didn't match the price the guy gave me the quote. I was not aware that these market changing every 5 minutes. Or could be these guy throw the number (up .10) to lure me into trap. Learn hard way..

2008 was the exception, not the norm. Look back a little farther.
