    Cold weather

Is anyone wondering about our spring weather yet? I know it is still early but the weather network shows us below average (below 7 degrees) for the next 2 weeks. That puts us into mid April and still well below normal. If our weather had been fluctuating this winter, I wouldn't be bringing this up but we've been below normal since the beginning of December so the trend has to be broke for things to improve much. I'm in the south of SK and am wondering what northern SK and the rest of you are seeing for snow disappearance and any guesses on a start date. This trend bodes well for a good frost down in the US so all is not bad as I've got a basis contract for this year to price yet and am looking to book a 09/10 FPC.

Can't agree with you more! On our farm(SESK) we start seeding the last week of April, 9 out of 10 years. The other one out of ten, we'll start during either the third week of April or the first week of May. There is more than a foot of snow left out in the fields, and our temps have only been 1 or 2, and like you said the forecast is for the same weather for the next two weeks. Right now we're probably looking at May 10th for a starting date,(provided we don't get another snow storm meanwhile) (Just missed a big one that went through the southern 2/3 of ND, 12-18")
Don't plan on seeding into cold soil(hoping that it'll warm up) like last year. Ended up with poor germ and weak plants, and then the real kicker, spring frost!

I hope we are seeding by may 10th. Usually like to be done by the 20th, so there are going to be some long days.

It's going to be a disaster with the entire province getting started at the same time. There is no way they are going to be able to keep up with anhydrous. Glad I bought some dry this year just too keep me going.

Same story here in the N.E. of Sask. Can't see any dirt in the fields yet. Not going to start seeding early like last when it was too cold. I farm next to a lake. Over the last 40 years I start seeding within a day or two of the ice clearing off the lake. Usually that is April 30 to May 4. Last year it was May 11. This year.....

southern MB, RR Valley, have had 4-5 inches of wet snow in the last 24 hrs. Not a day above 0 in 7 day forecast. The snowmobiles are coming back out!

one last ride before we start sandbagging... if it gets warm fast we're in trouble.
