Hey lets compare again ND vs Sask!

    Bottineau Bids Delivery Cash
    Spring Wheat 14% Aug 31, 09 5.80
    HRW Wheat 12% Apr 30, 09 4.79
    Milling Durum Apr 30, 09 6.25
    Terminal Durum #1 HAD Apr 30, 09 5.75
    Oil Sunflowers Apr 30, 09 13.15
    NuSun Sunflowers Apr 30, 09 13.15
    Canola New Crop 14.71
    Flax Apr 30, 09 6.75
    Soybeans Apr 30, 09 8.50
    RBST Barley Apr 30, 09 3.45
    Conlin Barley Apr 30, 09 3.45
    Feed Barley Apr 30, 09 2.30
    Lacey Barley Apr 30, 09 3.45
    Legecy Barley Apr 30, 09 3.45

For spring wheat its $7.21 Canadian dropped in pit. I might get what 6.00
Durum is $7.77 dropped in pit. And I might get what $6.00 since all Pros keep dropping.

So again we get the shaft in Western Canada.
GOT TO LOVE THE CWB STRANGLE HOLD ON WESTERN CANADA> UG UG UG UG UG

I'm ready to protest, we should do what the argentinian farmers do and block roads and protest for the end of the CWB and the beginning of the free market.

Their new crop barley bids for malt are lower than what I'm currently moving cash plus for though. ( though the board isn't involved except for their fee`for doing nothing)

From the CWB district meetings, old crop cashplus malt barley contracts would likely be in the range of $4/bu (likely China business) for 2 row. There is likely another 25 cents/bu top up.

Also always see the elevator bid which I assume is a delivered elevator/blended product. I am always more interested in specific identity preserved malt barley with quality specifications and direct farm to malt house delivery and the price being paid for this crop. Has anyone heard any of these new crop prices from the US?

Finally, I would be shopping the market for new crop cash plus even though you may not sign (my idea is that I won't grow malt barley without one of these contracts but I am risk adverse). This process is a good signal (not perfect because you still have the top up) of what your malt barley is worth. The PRO is simply a guess and will be impacted by the volume and target markets for cash plus.

On the wheat side, I note the comments in the Western Producer about Canadian farmers being paid a buck a bushel more than US farmers in 2007/08 without any context or explanation. Interesting math when you can look at the US market on any given day and see a buck a bushel premium to CWB PPO products and yet the Canadian average is higher. The CWB should be challenged on their numbers.

Like I said, we should protest. I'm up for it.

Well tim I would like the extra 36.6 dollars an acre in my pocket selling to ND. On your 400 acres at 60 Bushel wheat would be an extra$14,640.00 oh I am bad for wanting just a little more like every other farmer out their.
Now we seed 2500 to 3000 of spring wheat what did I and every other farmer out their loose?

ok but your pointing your finger at the CWB, and althought they might be a factor they are not the only. The rail freight system has some inefficiencies. If your growing durum in western saskatchewan, that going to a van. port. If your growing durum in far eastern sask thats going to an eastern port and you could be lookin at a 1$ more net... Europe likes its pasta you know.. Im not a fan of the CWB and beleave me i thing a guy should have the oppertunity to market however he wants but there are some other inconsistencies. just sayin lets tip a few cp rail cars while were screaming at the cwb.

timm - You did sell wheat at $9/bu which was a good thing - something the new CWB programs allowed although there could be discussion about whether the US price on that day was better (both fpc and US price converted to your bin). Still comes down to a good decision on the opportunities you were presented.

Off topic but was amazed how few farmers forward priced wheat spring 2008 and how many used a basis contract.

Timm doesn't North Dakota export as much a percentage of hard wheat as we do so that means their price is set by the export market. Our price should be the same. And like Charlie says on your fixed price contract, shouldn't you also compare what the North Dakota price is on the same day. I any case good on you to get some 9 dollar plus. Tipping rail cars is also a good idea. Show the rest of the country what bullshit we actually take here.

OK tipping rail cars is not a good idea.
Gotta do something that don't give a criminal record. hehe

The ND price would have been higher, no doubt about it there would have been lots of money left on the table. The question about getting it there is a red herring. In an open market the price would come to you. And as far as wanting a little more Sask you're not asking for a little more just the same as everyone else is getting.
