Three Weeks and Counting!

After this weekend its three weeks and counting till we seed.
But spring is a slow melt with colder night temps vary little run off.
We were wet last fall so snow is more of a problem than a benefit.
But it fills the dugouts etc.
Cleaning is getting done but slow. Guys still have lots of acres that they just dont know what to seed.
We hope to be actually seeding peas the last Monday of April. HA HA HA.
Yea that's our plan but reality is it will probably be the following Monday for full seeding.
Guys are starting to move some equipment around and out of snow banks.
Will be a interesting as always spring.

I notice your planting start date is somewhat like your crop yield estimates.
I bet you will be earlier than the monday.
Are you going to have all that new iron ready to go?

hay...yes...actually...i was wondering about how a site suggestion could be made?? i was wondering if there would be a possibility of a bulletin board where truckers could post backhaul availability to BC...there are many ranchers here that are purchasing hay out of alta and sask...i would like to as well..but i am having a hard time finding a decent price on trucking...also...anyone have any hay leftover that they want to get rid of??? vs

Those are asking prices, hard to know what is actually being paid.

I did check out Ritchie Bros. site and a model of tractor I bought at auction last year is $18,000 cheaper this year although condition has to be considered.

I don't know whether your trying to be sarcastic or whether your on ludes, but I don't at all suspect that you'll be seeding in April! It's time you and the marketplace recognized that.

sorry to sound a little stern about this topic, but we live a 2 hour drive south east of Regina and have full quarter sections completely covered in snow! over a 30 mile drive I'd say that the avg snow cover is still 66%, with 25% stuble and the rest, 9% water.
Early guys here start seeding Apr 15, the majority start last week of April(26 or 27th) it's still freezing every night, so melt has been the slowest I've seen
Most here are conceding to a May 10 start, the biggest guys will try to go sooner, but we all remember what happened last year, with canola taking over two weeks to emerge.

Im in your area boarder and it is freaky.

Sloughs are the fullest i've seen them and half of the snow left to go.

Kick in 9 inches of rain last fall.

Been looking at the calender and perhaps your right. I am not even sure I have enough days in April to get my pre planting repairs done. The ditches are just starting to run here now. won't be much run off unless we get some more snow, according to that 14 dayer looks like no moisture. Well hope you southern guys get going so the Juice delivery goes OK.

Snow is gone here, all but some tree lines and back roads. Run off lasted about 4 days. We will not go in the feild though until after the 1st of May.
Lots can happen yet, like last years foot of snow on the 15th. In three weeks mother nature will make the call for us.
No panic what so ever, spring melt has been slow and steady. Just have to time the 46-0-0 that we have to spread? Probably after the 20th. This slow melt is a good thing, it will not dry out as fast - 2001 snow was gone early and we seeded every acre by May 17th - worst crop in history.

Going north tomorrow to see air drill. But I still think with the slow melt and cross fingers that we will start peas the last Monday of April. Durum also that week.
But that still leaves two weeks to get it all ready to go. Ha that's going to keep us busy. Some one has to start to get the juice running.
