    Harvest report from UK

    Hi all
    Finished combining w.canola yesterday.
Weather has been very kind, low losses and reasonable moisture.
Best feild did 60bu/a but dissapointing.
Looked great and once we did 80.
Worst field did 40bu/a and was pleasing as it was full of weed and had really suffered during wet fall/winter.
Overall we are probablly just below our average.
Neighbours and farm papers also report canola yeilds just below average.

Early reports on w. barley are, suprisingly, above average yeilds with good quality.
Perhaps only the better land got sown last fall as the acreage of w.barley is way down.

    Regards Ian

    Hi all
Harvest here is becomeing a stop go affair.
    Mostly stop!!
Managed just 12hrs combining in last 15 days in three separate spells.
Rain drizzle and humid conditions are adversly affecting crops which are now just about all ripe.
Must be loosing quality, wheat turning black and starting to lodge.
Straw quality a worry for our horse customers!!
Canola yields down country wide some real bad reports.
Our spring barley did about 2tonnes/acre
exactly half winter wheat from same field last year, but was malting quality before all this wet and damp.

Will what is still in the field make the grade?

Hope you are having better luck with the weather.

    Regards Ian

      Ian,

We are literally being toasted alive out here.

I am trying to swath my Canola, at night now to try to stop shattering.

Many places have not had any rainfall for over a month, so the late crops are starting to mature quickly, and even out.

Pea combine harvesting is now widespread in the northern part of the prairies. Southern areas must be close to wheat harvesting, with many of the peas now in the bin.

Hope you can get your harvest off soon!
