    Fertilizer War

Anybody hear of a $100/mt price drop lately? Second hand information suggests that fertilizer companies have dropped their wholesale price in the last week.

SE Sask prices still $550 for 46-0-0, not sure on 11-52-0.

Fertilizer Buddy isn't up to date. Is it worth sticking your neck out, and filling the bins for next year already?

After last year, I'm so screwed up, not sure what to think. Should finish seeding today, and I know it's ridiculous to buy inputs 12 months in advance, but what are your thoughts?

I will be buying shortly after seeding depending on credit cash flow and crop emergence

If you buy 46 how do you keep it from lumping? I bought in January and put it in brand new meridan bins and its still being poked out

A former chem-fert dealer now farming claims there is no problem storing urea if you have a bin with a top and bottom hole only. He puts a couple of tonnes of phosphate in the hopper bottom, his load(s) of 46 next, and a tonne of phosphate at the roof peak. The phosphate will seal off and absorb any moisture that could enter the openings. I have not tried this since NH3 is our nitrogen source, so please don't shoot this messenger!

Kitty litter in first stuff you dump in. Attracts the moisture then seal top under the lid with plastic bag. Works very well. But wait till just before harvest when the USA farmers are getting ready to seed winter wheat that's when the big price drop will happen. Their not going to get gouged twice in a row and the local coops wont take the BS game again either.

I checked this morning with our present fert dealer. His method is as described by SF3. He claims the bin must be filled as full as possible, and to check the warmth of the load. You don't want a fresh produced load unless you have some way to cool it down before binning.
