    Canola update

Can someone please tell me where the canola looks good right now?
    (Other than under a pivot)

Should canola not be well over $500.00/t by now given the conditions?

    Is the loonie that cumbersome?

Vermilion, Alberta (60 k west of lloydminster) area. We have not had a drop of rain or snow this year and had a dry fall last year. Crops look accordingly. Nobody is spraying as there is nothing growing really. Peas have been in a month and are an inch tall and 5 nodes. Canola is still in cot stage but not growing, or the flea beetles are getting whatever is growing. Its bad. Worst i have ever seen.

You know the old saying the market is always right. Yea that about the same as when GM gets a cold the rest of us get the flu. I will be slow to kill this crop because of last year but if Alberta is Dry, and Frost and Sask is Dry and lots of frost and Manitoba is WET WET and Frost. Then how in the world can the Canadian Canola Crop be in Good shape. i for one think we need to see a change in the weather pattern very soon or we will be in seriously bad shape. Or is it poor information like Argentina going to produce 50 mton soy crop and the number is 30 or less that's a little out. China has drought problems in their crop if our weather is the shits then its effecting the US to. Froze close to NYork on weekend. Wouldn't the soy be hurt. I believe their going to try to steal last years crop over the next while, then look out. Flax looks not very nice after last nights min frost here. Canola nice where the field burnt.

I have some canola that has froze for the second time and will probably get it again on Friday.

It is getting very dry also, with no rain in the forecast reseeding would be a waste of time.

The only positive is due to rotation my Canola acres were low this year.

Well my relatives in the northeast say some of their canola that is up looks like crap due to frost drought and beating from flea beatles, and some doesn't look like anything because it's sitting in the dust after being reseeded because the first round froze off. Where abouts is this 50 bushel la la land!!

This latest round of frost it looks like the growing point is still alive so instead of having four leaf canola (stage it is supposed to be), I've got half of a leaf on some plants.

The plants in the straw got hit this time but the first frost the plants under the straw were spared so it just looks like crap all over now.

they are East of Nipawin and I am only repeating what I have been told.
If some of you fellows want to write off Canada's canola crop on the 3rd of June go ahead.
Around Davidson crops are later than average but still in decent shape. The frost did torch some plants but the ability`s of today's canola amazes me every year.
a rule of thumb for me.
If the people telling me their canola sucks are also growling lentils they are probably not remembering they only get 40 bu. canola 1 year in 10

Your absolutely right gustgd the crop definately should not be wrote off, BUT alot of people are thinking last year is the norm we had perfect weather after the bad start. I'm just saying the canola crop is not looking like 40 right now as it is, and we are in a near serious if not condition of serious drought that is going to require a ton of rain right away or at least quick intervals of rain all summer. I don't see that in the forecast althouth shouldn't put much in the forecast either. What was reseeded in areas there was no doubt that it had to be done and most is into dust.
