    Feed grain prices?

What is happening with feed grain (including feed pea) prices in your area?

The reason I ask is that in times like the current when supplies are under stress there is a large range between the bid and offer side. Price survey tend to reflect the bid (buyers are the ones who are phoned).

What are buyers bidding for feed wheat, barley, oats and peas?

What would farmers in your area be willing to sell these products for (offer side)?

What are actual transacted prices (real business)? How far out is pricing going?

One piece of advice I will hand out is that US corn imports are not likely to supplement a domestic feed grain shortage in the coming year. The price of imported corn (S. Alta.) is likely about 75 cents/bu over CBT corn futures converted to Canadian dollars track. September futures $4.50 ish/bu. 75 cent basis puts at $5.25/bu or about USD $210/tonne or Cdn $230/tonne. Trucking to feedlot $10/tonne. Landed US corn about $240/tonne.

Lethbridge cash is $177 right now. What is the feed conversion eqivalent for corn verses bly? Does 1 bu. bly. equal 1 bu. corn?

Depends on how you value protein. Energy wise I think barley is about equal
90 % of corn. From my memory. corn is about 8 % protein versus barley at
about 12 %. Also depends a bit on how corn is processed and the livestock
      species.

      What factor do others use?

Good to hear as this is likely the main issue of the moment in Alberta - keeping cows fed. At the present time, there is a need for industry and government to take some of the lessons of both 2001 and 2002 and begin to apply them to 2009.

Regina area is about $200 FOB for feed peas. Barley bids were $3 FOB for about 2 days, then all buyers stopped. Corn is coming in to replace in MB and buyers there say large carryover in ND and a so far good looking crop in the US...to them anyway. Was in Wpg on the weekend and not much to look at down the #1.

Southern Alberta seems to be around $4/bu.

Suspect deliveries will really taper over the summer as the grain side accesses their 2009 crop. On the other side of the world, I don't know what the livestock industries ability/willingness to pay will be.

broker - what price is the imported US corn coming into Manitoba at? What basis does Manitoba use? Alberta likely (always have to do homework) about CBT futures plus 75 cents/bu converted to Cdn dollars.
