How did it get dry in the last 21 days?

It hasnt substantially rained here (Red Deer North) since August, didnt get our usual shitty harvest weather. Didnt get any runoff from the snow this year.
How come nobody (Western Seducer, govt, CWB, etc) noticed untill about 2 weeks ago its frakking dry.
    This is news?
The big headline was flooding in Manitoba (again). It affects the important city folks (CWB employees) and makes better tv footage than a couple old grumpy farmers scratching in the dust.

I think this year is going to suck. Its way to dry, the frost has does huge damage in some areas, and its to dry to consider reseeding.

Local Viterra had farmers buying out canola contracts this week. A sign of things to come?

Where are the good crops? Lacombe/Blackfalds/Ponoka we have reasonable germination, minimal frost damage but very very dry. East of highway 12 15 miles it gets very bad.

    Whats the peace country like?

Good points ron, it is dry west of the battlefords all the way to Swift, your area and all the way to Edmonton. All 50 bus canola, wheat, pea country last year. I have no idea how many km's2 that is but it is a huge area.

It hasn't you just don't count. You really should know better.

The cwb has already dropped production by 20%. Its going to get alot worse. Remember what happened in Australia.

The peace country in general needs a rain but has good soil moisture for now. Our canola has been hammered by frost, flea beatles and damping off.

im not a huge canola grower 110 ha but presume from all posts canola would be the sleeper and could burst into a sustained rally anytime soon?
What about wheat or is that almost a "minor" crop in western canada
dont take that as a dumb question please

this is like 88 , it took winnipeg a month or more to figure it out .
its our chance to buy the futures,
surely canola has a demand somewhat independent from soybeans. and i think were talking close to 1/2 - 2/3 last years production for western canada.
i bought back my straight contract.
also have production contracts , with act of god, i guess i should buy a future to counter them .
because their gonna get my entire production at the locked price.

you read over on ag talk that its all gonna tank.
in any case , i think this area at least is joining the depression.

The fine analysts of agtalk are a bunch of fine egg heads, who can not stand up to any form of logical macro debate.
