Is it to late for Dry Areas?

After seeing last week the hard hit dry areas of Sask and Alberta, then coming home last night in torrential down pour till moosejaw. One has to ask will it help. The answer is yes will fill heads but will cause second growth etc etc. Surprising get to farm today and guess what after a week away total rain fall. SFA. or less than a tenth. Rained from Regina to the valley then broke apart and the sun is trying to peak out here at the farm. The Canola looks better and so do the peas, but the surprise is the HRS and Barley and Durum plus Oats, trying to head needs a good soak-er fast.
Canola and peas look better becasue the ground is now covered.
Its nice to see the rain in alberta and west sask. But my view is its a little late.

I travelled one hour along #9 and #22 Hwys on the weekend, and I found the crops late, but growing well, as the weather has been quite cool. They will probably leap to maturity if it gets hot.

A dany crop of peas growing south of Whitewood. A few good thick canola crops near Esterhazy. Many late.

Saw only one crop of oats and it was quite heavy. High enough stand and a good color.

Quite a bit of barley ranging from headed out lush, to uneven germination and poor.

The pastures are not lush. But the crops were holding their own, albeit they will probably be short crops. A good rain and there will be some yield.

      IMHO

I have just checked our rain gauges and crops.

Almost 2/10 inch... 4mm... of rain .... midway
        between Carlyle and Arcola.

Barley is uneven... some headed... some later.. in
        the same fields.

Canola ... some blossoming... some bolting... some
        later... in the same fields.

Flax... more even than the barley and canola....
        almost blooming.

Wheat... (neighbours)... about 12-14 inches tall and
        mostly headed.

Hay crops are poor... but some late growth would
take off if it rains enough...

I think the cool weather.. nights especially.. has
allowed the crop to hold on ... and the colour is still
        good.

I am again in agreement with Parsley... must be the
Kenosee air... that we could still harvest a mediocre
crop with some much needed rainfall and a later
        frost this fall.

Hopefully this weather system develops as
        forecasted by World Weather..... Bill

Rain all broke up about Wynyard. Not a drop in Rose Valley. Forecast still says 1.5" Wed- Thurs? Canola bolting, some lush some patchy uneven. Early cereals short. No heading.
