    Equipment prices out to lunch!

Were looking at a new 75 ft parallel link drill. Price is $317,500.00 Cash with big tank and duals. Loaded.
In real money they are giving us 70,000.00 for ours which is a 2006 with mid row shank big cart loaded.
Now isn't it funny in four years yours is worthless. (oh yea their probably going to be asking 137,000.00 for it or better).
The new one uses technology similar to our grandfathers old Armstrong drill use leaver to put pressure on discs. Now its hydraulic.
So your paying for technology. Yea that's a good one. This year some of the worst crops are with these drills. Couldn't set pressure right.
So where is the price increase of our product.
Hell were back to 1964 prices again, yet the equipment is at 2009 levels. Were told we have to suck it up and live with it in a balanced market. Yes its our fault as stupid farmers to buy this stuff. We have till the 29Th of this month to put the order in, with the late fall thinking it probably wont happen.
Also the tractor to pull this drill is now cheaper than the drill itself. HM HM.
But the new dealership set up is also a problem. You have Parts, Sales, Service, and trucking. When they figure your price all get a cut. Your billed 1500 plus to deliver the new drill to you. and pick up your junk.
Your billed by the parts for the boots and monitors. The service gets a cut for putting the drill together and having it factory field ready. Then the sales man gets his cut, who has to deal with the bitchy farmer.
Simply if we could go to Bourgault or Flexi or deere and buy direct cutting out the crap I would, and probably most farmers would also. I always new Deere protects their dealers territory even if they wont confirm that but now other companies slap dealers who sell out side of their area. So were been held hostage on getting real prices for product. Use to be dealer who was most efficient made best deals. This is retail super stores like walmart etc. Here is your price take it or leave it. You can only cut a pie so many times and its gone.

Would you not be better off to drop a few acres than to spend that kinda money on something that will not make you a dime? In fact, it will cost you money. Keep your old '06 drop a few acres and look at buying fert in about two months if we get past the frost issue. Put that $300,000 into cheap fert or buy shares in Johnson and Johnson or General Mills. That new iron will not make you a dime - ever.

My thinking exact except my brother and father think its time to replace the drill. Also wont their be some auction sale deals in Alberta and Sask if it freezes etc.
Its huge amount of cash for what. But might be voted down.
Made me think of a example. The 300,000.00 would buy 6315 30 packs of beer. Drink all take back the empties you still get $18,947.00 for the cans.
And who says farming doesn't pay.
Were not paid for our product enough to cover these costs simple equation.

Dumb question-are you talking about bourgault?

Those dealers really are protecting themselves, first thing they ask on the phone is "where are you from",then the price always comes in as the adverticed price.

Yea that's the one cotton. Have bids from Kamsack, Regina, Wadena Yorkton, Swift-current. Its really hard to get a grasp on how expensive this piece of equipment has gotten.

Sask. I know bourgault is very well constructed but have you looked at Seedmaster or Seedhawk? I am sure you did just one thing about the bourgault I thought they have more wearing parts and yes they are well built. Seedmaster seed openners are closer to the packing wheel for following the ground. You could also instead keep the old drill and give your son or daughter if you have one 6 quarters of land for a start.

Anhydrous is to close to seed with the other two. Looked at, but like the coulters.

Go with another 5710 with 5 inch pnematic packers ...best drill on the market

Why not go with a 5710, cheaper, simpler and will do just as good of job. Remember on the paralink you are limited to narrow openers 3/4 or 1 inch because of excessive dirt throw by if you go any wider.

Sf3 - How much NH3 are you putting down to believe that you're harming the seed with a master or a hawk?

The seedhawk and seedmaster have the fert knife only about 1" away from the seed. The mid-row banders are 5" or 6" away, depending on spacing.
