Peas a few pods edible on the outside edge still some flowers but will abort the ones left because of no moisture left. Still should do 60. Soft Wheat near done flowering to just started, should do 65 70. Canola full bloom to Not quite there yet. should do 30 to 40 from field to field on account of some bare patches on some. Canola will also be very suseptable to blowing in the swath on them bare patches. And all needs that drink very soon. If don't get the drink in the next few days then yeilds est. will be dropping. Forecast is for a chance. Actually cannot scratch into moisture anymore so roots are sucking from very deep into the soil which is good in a way that they have accessed some extra nutrients which I believe is helping the crop get through the dryness. All very susseptable to a frost. Perhaps crop ins. would have been a good idea this year.

All of our crops need water. Cracks in the soil are
            really opening.

Barley is from 20" to 38" tall.... same fields...
depends upon moisture... short barley is filling in
the boot (2 row)... taller areas are starting to fill.

Canola .. Invigor 5440... is mostly about 3 ft tall...
from 30" to 40"... about 90% podded... except for 1
half section.. 8440.. which has been blossoming for
about 1 week... best looking field but doubtful it
            will make it.

Flax is 16" to 22" tall... mostly finished
            blossoming.... still looks decent...

Canaryseed is unhappy.... short straw... short
heads... tillers still trying to head.

Fields are looking sculpted... shrinking where
lacking water... every snow bank made a difference
            so far this year.

Neighbours wheat fields are also shrinking... awns
are turning amber... leaves are dropping.

If I knew when the first killing frost will occur this
fall... I'd have a better idea of how much rain to
            order!... lol... Bill

We are still two weeks behind here, and cold overnight temps will not help until mon-tues.

Predicting yields is a mug's game. Our desert durum - correction - the early seeded CWB durum is 3/4 filled, and should have enough moisture to fill. The strikers have 6 - 8 to the pod, filled, and the plants are a week from end game. They have really turned with the last days of heat. The flax - 90% has finished flowering with the second germination flush and the low areas in full bloom.
