The Value of 535 HP tractors.

We just sent out bids for new 535HP tractor. Their back and very interesting to read. Vers was higher than I thought it would be but that's with full power-shift Trans. Quad track came in very fair. Case and NH were close, But the Deere was out by the most.
Now were as green as you can get, Hell right down to BR. But maybe just maybe a new Quad Track is in store for 2010. Cash price all were under $300,000.00 except two guess which two. All had full weights, Big rubber, Big Hydraulic flow, Sc****r packages, Auto Steer build in with GPS.Basically loaded right up.
One company was way out of the picture and its got a golden color.
Now we will wait for harvest and decide come fall, Was very interesting to see the differences on so many tractors.

In 1940 the list on a wd9 was 1945 dollars. about $28 bucks per horsepower.

Your quotes show about $560 per horsepower. An increase of 20 fold.

In 1940, a dollar invested in canadian stocks is worth $621 in 2008.

In 1934 President Roosevelt devalued the Dollar to be worth $35 for one ounce of gold. President Nixon removed the link between the Dollar and gold in 1971. Since that time the gold price has been free to move based on market demands. Gold has gone from $34 in 1971 to over $1000 in 2008. The Dollar has lost 97% of its value versus gold in thirty eight years.

All we need is someone to calculate the worth of a 1940 dollar value today and then you know the value of your tractor.

    Hope this helps.

Actually the Case 4 wheel and NH and Vers were close. Deere and Cat out. OK cat really out. Multiples would work but with the condition of crop and late harvest doing combines and tractor is out. Deere wants my 9520 with very low hours not valuing it high enough, but when it hits their lot watch its value.
Its fun to see the prices and compare.

Challenger truely believes that it has the golden goose based on their new tractor values. These values are not holding up on the used market compared to other green or red units. Pay a 100K premium for a cat and have it evaporate to 30K in 2 years. Performance claims by cat dont hold water as well according to Nebraska Tractor Test. Of course they will tell you that these tests are on a concrete track so they cant possibly be accurate. Pays huge dividends to do your homework. Cat and Bourgault seem to have taken the same train to LaLa Land. Work the salesman hard or your leaving a lot of greenback on the table.

I agree our dealer needs a reality bite. The bourgault drill was first shot. A Case Quad track might be a good Scud to their hull. Or a Negotiation strategy that works. We will see, first have to get this crop in the bin and that's looking like a pipe dream every night.

What about a farmer association...ie WBGA or WCWGA negotiate a price for half tons or tractors on behalf of interested farmer buyers?

2400 buyers, say, and all stating first, second and third choices, as well as prices.

                You can participate or not.

If I were a dealer, I would sit up and pay attention. pars

Got a nephew that will show you how to get those tracks off in 1/2 hour or less.Says you haven`t lived till you roll`em off in a turn! Back supports or physio should be supplied by dealer.

Ran a quadtrack for 200 hours in 2004 on air drill and was less than impressed. Very rough and huge horsepower loss to turn 4 tracks as oppossed to wheels or even 2 tracks. Dealers indicate nothing has been done to change the rough ride on caseih. Deere seems to be achieving some impressive numbers with their smaller displacement engines both with power and fuel efficiency. This hardcore cummins man may have to take another look.

Thanks CropDuster was leaning to the Quad track. But Deere is starting to take notice that were really serious few phone calls today way higher up ladder. Drove the NH and Case Wheel units this morning. Nice and have some interesting features. I love the game just wish could control the weather and Frost, Heard Hyde has some product he is going to spray come Monday on 16000 acres for frost protection, Cost $9.00 an acre plus application, hes spraying on all his acres.

Pars, are you suggesting a 'co-operative, socialist, working together approach'? Why I am shocked! The trouble is, group purchasing does work, it is used by municipalities all over. This is a widely used approach, especially successful in Europe. I don't care if it is initiated by the WBGA, the WCWGA, or the NDP as long as it brings value to farmers. Maybe Saskfarmer would be the first to sign up.
But expect extreme resistance at first from dealers and manufacturers as this approach will impact their profit margins bigtime. However, competition being what it is will eventually crack and someone will drop their prices dramatically just to get the action. You presented a really sound and logical idea. Now you need a buy in, which will be tough, but don't give up.

Brooks Farm Center has been advertising a Versy 535 for $260000 for quite a while. May be a standard. Lots of hailed down crop in this area.
