Cargill makes more room for canola supply

An interesting article on canola (also test my new found skills).

As a brain teaser while you are harvesting/getting ready for harvest, can you name a creative innovative new use for any of the cereals during the past 10 years?

Are you implying that that canola has an innovative new use and cereals haven't? Strange I don't see any any innovative new use although 10 years ago they tried to make a go of HEAR ****seed. Canola oil is still a cooking oil and always will be.

Umm, wouldn't high oleic canola allow the oil to be used in more applications than regular canola oil? Perhaps the frying and food processing market?

Biodiesel is another possibility even though my opinion is that the jury is still out on that one.

Interesting that a new flour mill is finally being built in Canada. But wait, it's out east. Hmmm.

Agstump - canola is and always will be the "star" over wheat/barley. That 'cooking' oil pays 3-1 net more than wheat or barley every year bar none! Much like that silly birdseed/hotdog/lentil/pea market - no real money in that eh!! Get your head out of your a$$!! And yes I got the 'just' of your comment! Nice PRO's Jacka$$!!

On the barley side, could talk about beta glucan and the health trend of
fibre in baby boomers diets. Could talk about barley flour and the ability
to extend shelf life of doughnuts. Could talk about opportunities for
                prairie cereal grains and ethanol.

Won't put it in but there has been a CWB press release on cereal research
                last two weeks.

Was looking for this type of idea. To your comments Agstar77, perhaps
one area that canola has been more successfull is commercializing good
                ideas.

Before I get flame posts, I have to highlight work on triticale as an
ethanol cereal. Also note the comment on durum and noodles although
can't say there has been an overwhelming increase in demand.
