Saskfarmer, you still are not answering the question. Questions is, and read carefully, Why would they pay more for peas then they have to in light of the values of other commodities?

Well D A V E your right why would they pay for peas when every single other crop is back to the same shippy price it was 5 years ago. why Dave why did the Ag crash and burn so bad. why Dave did every single part of our farm expenses increase to us as farmers yet when the prices hit the tank their is no real drop by them. Why Dave were we fed a stream of BS about how the prices of their product has to go up because of demand when you and i both new their was no extra demand it was just all a simple greed mentality to finally make some money and farmers supposedly had some. Well Dave the only way I see farmers will ever get a head is when we finally can figure it out that we control the food system we own the product (Monsanto and Bayer are trying to win that one) and people need to E A T. IT's not about peas Dave its about the price drop that's happening and how we will loose again farmers who over spent and couldn't see the big game that was being played on them.

"The Informant" with Matt Damon , might give you some insight why farmers will always be at the bottom rung.

Saskfarmer-what I am getting at is that we have had big crops, prices come down. As well, we have a global recession which reduced demand for our products and prices went down. Who is they?? No one controls global prices of grains. Look at lentils. Why is the price moving lower? Is it just a big game by the buyers? This is a free market, more supply means lower prices. We went from zero supply in Canada at July 31st, the main global exporter, to 1.3 MMT at Sept 30th. Maybe CWB works best for you in the end? If you gonna think markets are a game then how do you make proper market decisions? I am guessing that you are pissed that you did not forward contract much production and that is the real reason you are mad. I don't blame you, I have cheap canaryseed getting cheaper and not overly happy with it either. Try and get to know a few destination buyers for your crops and understand how they think and what problems they encounter and you will soon see more clearly why markets move.

If I was running a fertilizer company I would have tried to charge the most money I could per MT over the last couple years. I would try and hype the market as much as I could. Someone said it better in a previous thread, then I could, that the company acts in the best interest of the shareholder not the customer. Same as every farmer on here.

This big/huge crop thing, is the same BS grain companies feed us, each and every year at harvest time. Cause they know they are going to get some cheap, cheap, grain and oil seeds, after all many payments come due on Oct 31st. Gotta have the cash or crash or else, the boogie man is gonna gettcha! And guess what? Each and every year it works. Then there is the dockage/stealage aspect which kicks in, and guess what more and more free grain and oilseed. Saskboy, you are finally beginning to see the light. Fraud and corruption in the marketplace is what makes things work. Grain companies HELPING FARMERS TO FEED THE WORLD. Now there is an ear worm that'll drive you crazy! Is that the AWP, Agrisnore, Agrisnore/Uknitted, Viagra, or the ABBBBBBA Australian grain company slogan? Whatever, just keep thinking about it, as you get older you'll be more and more happy...........

Don't people ever learn not to sell during harvest? Price before or price after, but don't get caught up in the panic.

It's odd, but when I cautioned people not to get caught up in the "new paradigm" hype, I was slagged as being a pessimist and hating farmers. And SF3, you were one of the loudest.

Zap I said all along from the day of the price boom back in Feb of 08. Prices increased on all our inputs almost magically overnight. They were yapping their is a shortage of this and that and the sky is the limit. I said it was all BS. Read the posts. As for this crop all along its a average. Now D A V E, I am talking how most farmers feel in general. Its all a big game, No i don't like the CWB hell they need to go,Farmers who sell in Fall are always going to get skinned one way or another. Look at Flax the world price dropped maybe 1.00 yet the grain companies are dropping their price by 3. dollars.
D A V E no I am not pst because I didn't pre sell at the top. I am pst that all farmers were screwed by the companies for their BS shortages and scare tactics, I am pst at the crappy information that countries dish out about their yields etc.

Legalized theft from both sides. The input suppliers have to set new records every year for their shareholders and the end users want to have dirt cheap supplies so they can do their scalping. It's all about the economy.Nobody gives 2 shits about the peasant actually doing all the work.Sick thing is it's only going to get worse.

                      Country Guy......

Where do you put your neighbours in that rant? By neighbours I mean the local fertilizer/chemical/fuel dealer, (who has to buy, sell, and store products) and you next door farmer neighbour that competes for land rent? Or who grows and tries to sell his product in the same market as you do?

On that not too..... for all of us, we are all "input supplies" that have to compete too with our buyers. Be they the India peoples for our lentils/peas, or the baker for our wheat.

We're all in this together and we are all quilty of wanting to buy low and sell high, all in the game of trying to maximize our bottom line?
