We have recently set up a website and want to use some of our own photographs on it. Our scanner reproduces pictures in Bitmap format but we need them as JPEGS to add to the website. How do we convert them ?

grassfarmer,
Image Composer that comes with MS FrontPage will convert bmp files to the jpg format. Alternatively, you could use Paint that comes with Windows. It will convert bitmaps to gif files which also can be mounted on a website. Gifs, however, have a nasty habit of losing colors plus they often are twice as large as jpgs.
You could also try using a little shareware program that I'm quite fond of called LView Pro. It will convert to almost any format plus it will also allow you to create transparent gifs, that is the background is transparent and all you see is the foreground rather than an ugly rectangular white background. LView Pro is actually quite a powerful little program.
You can find LView Pro at:
