My sister had a 30 acre field of Foremost wheat that didn't get sprayed. The volunteer canola was pretty heavy as well as a lot of other weeds. She decided to cut it for greenfeed. It went 3 tons/acre and she sold it for $80/ton. Gross return was $240/acre with cutting, baling and stacking costs of $54/acre. She figured she made as good a profit, or better than if she had sprayed it and harvested it. She also got $10/acre for grazing the regrowth. The cows sure seem to like this feed. You have to put it through a bale processer to break up the awns.
