How are you harvesting green peas?

Anybody have any experience with straight cutting or using a stripper header in green peas? Is it neccessary to dessicate if one where to use a stripper header or straight cut. I farm in the dry brown soil zone in southwest Sask. thanks for your comments.

We straight cut, used to use reglone but now just use higher rates r/up and only spray reglone for seed. 1 1/2 to 2 ltr/ac will kill almost as quick as reglone and have much more complete drydown when ready. Gone to new flex headers - no more drappers and increased capacity dramatically. New 35ft flex - $45,000 - new 36 ft drapper min $75,000. New drappers are better than what we had but crazy price.

                  Hello,

I guess Roundup is a option, but talk to your buyer, overseas buyers get more and more restrictive on glyphosat because of tolerance limits and end-user concerns.

Harvesting green peas (and good color) starts with using the right parcel, grain stubble should be the only land for (green) peas, no experiments like canola stubble or such.

Uniform emergence and high seeding rates will promote even ripening. Harvest with higher moisture, anywhere around 18% works, aerate or dry to get good color, watch your bins, market in the first year, because the color of GP also changes slowly.

                  Best regards, pulseman

After watching Greece I'd say both.
