Do you plan to plant more wheat & barley now that the CWB is finished?

According to Prairie Ag Hotwire, the passing of the Marketing Freedom Act will cause Western Canadian farmers to plant more acres to wheat and barley next year. They are attributing the rally in deferred canola futures contracts late last week to this, saying that prices must rise in order to prevent producers from switching to wheat and barley in the spring.

Do you think that the end of the CWB means that farmers will plant more wheat and barley now that they have access to the open market?? Or is this completely unrelated?

Continuing my rotation pretty much the same as always.

The CWB isn't finished, just the single desk buying function. I may actually contract some production with them, but not at a discount to other buyers, and it will be my choice.

Still thinking about what to seed. Maybe a few
more acres of wheat, fewer acres of canola.

The CWB hasn't ended, the single desk monopsony has.

Keeping the acreage the same, just our input level may change depending on markets, prices and weather. If it makes sense to grow more wheat we would just top dress more if conditions are right. Time will tell.

Likely depends if pulse crop prices bid for more acres against wheat.

Same old, same old. Life goes on, on the
fram. Now that the markeeters are gonna
plant more cereal, is the time ta plant
more canolie. Always due the opposite of
what the gobermont wants, is the key ta
success on the fram, in Comedia.......

wd9, The wheatie bored is in winddown
mode now causa the fact that the
gobermont has nationalized it. It is
being fazed out and there is nothing wes
kin do about it. Remember how the local
                  elevators disappeared. The good times
is over, LEAN AND MEAN are the new
phrases that sum up Comedian Gag. The
new way er the highway. Small framers
are doomed, though land prices are on
the rise. Corporate GREED is the key to
                  Comedian framing in the future.
                  Angribusiness is gonna be #1..
