We have had tip die back in Barrie here as well, but not in McKenzie. In fact the McKenzie crop was outstanding. Are the two varieties that different?

Yes these 2 varieties are quite different, both in agronomic character as well as parentage. AC Barrie is derived from Neepawa, Columbus and a experimental line BW 90. McKenzie is derived from Columbus and an American wheat Amidon. Note that Columbus was derived from Neepawa and an experimental line RL 4137. I don't have information on the parentage of Amidon but I suspect it would be quite different than our Canadian varieties.
