    GreenFeed Varietys

We used a smooth awned barley (Stander) for our greenfeed this year, we generally us oats but it used as a cover crop on new pasture and we didn't want any regrowth after an early harvest. There was some rain (more than a lot of this part of the world) but the barley was short and didn't yeild all that well. I was wondering if anyone has any opinion on barley/oats and which is more drought tolerant. Also any ideas on which is the earliest, we put more in Aug.1 and are hoping to cut it mid-Sept.
    Thanks

I grew westford barley this year and it is also short, but man does it ever have leaves! I saw it on a field last year and it was double the crop we had, and you can say the same for this year also.
