Fall spraying

A while back there was a discussion about fall glyphosate spraying. Someone mentioned,and I am sorry I forget who,that they like to spray as late as possible. This goes against what I always thought. Any one else like to go late ?
I guess I would like to pursue this a little more. I assume the fall treatment is going after Canada Thistle, maybe dandilion and winter annuals amongst other things. I always try to get the job done as early as I can. ( I usually don't succeed !)
When is it too late? What's everybodys experience with this?

We're spraying now. We try to hit that sweet spot where perennial weeds are speeding to store root reserves after some light frost, and winter annuals are almost all emerged. Doesn't always work but if we try every year our average is good.

We don't usually worry about volunteers. They act as our "cheapskate cover crop" sucking up excess moisture and leaving some good ground cover. We wouldn't let them grow to the point they'd be a seeding problem next year though.

Fields are GREEN so some unwanted moisture got sucked up. After some frost the perennials are in hurry up mode to move nutrients down the root, give some glyphos to chew on ! bye bye suckers...

Fjlip, I imagine you are referring to canola stubble being green.

Are you using pre-pass or just glyphosate?

Prepass Express? Want to see my group 2 cleaver collection in my clearfield canola? Haven't grown clearfield since 46a76 came out and I got em in every field. I'm done with with group 2 for broadleaf control. Bumping gly instead, phenoxy or bromoxynil for rr.

There's also Distinct which I think has Dicamba in it if next years crop is a cereal.

we always wait until a frost .we had minus 4 here on sun night , so good to go now , plus we try to get as much regrowth as possible. all perennials seem to kill better after a frost because plants switch from growing to storing . our later fields are always a good job . our fields are very clean . we don't spray the crop dessicated ones again and that usually works out good also . peas were dessicated in early aug and all that is growing on it is volunteer peas

What ever you do don't go cheap on the glyphosate, we found that it gives you a great kill this time of year.
