I would have to say that what you're proposing wouldn't necessarily reduce fusarium. You might want to stick with the openers you already have and like.

Are there any varieties of durum with at least an mr rating for fusarium?

There's got to be a way to beat that fusarium cheaply. We might have to experiment on our own.

When I was involved with Pesticide Free Production, one thing that our research showed was effective was under seeding the crop to vetch or clover. If a thick under story developed it acted like a net that caught the fusarium spores keeping them from infecting the head. Martin Entz had some surprisingly good results from this.

I think it was AG Canada that was telling us to turn up the wind and blow infected kernals out thee back of combine. That always seemed counter productive to me.
I wonder if anyone is trying chaff collection to remove all infected kernals and chaff or maybe even some results from the Mcleod harvester.

When I pre worked seeded with discers and harrow packed never had disease problems. Will never burn but some fall tillage may be in order next year.

Sell or rent the ****ing shit out. Let some other fool try to meet unattainable grade tolerances. To add insult to injury the junk fungicides claim nothing more than "suppression". $o go ahead and spray it, and if conditions persist spray it again, its only money and wear and tear on equipment. And in the end, the "Pickers" can get out their tweezers and 100X magnifying glass and find the grand sum of .25% to knock it down to two, .8% max for a two and 1.5 max for a three. The CGC does say they have
the right to use a 10 power magnifying glass to "look for fibrous growth". With any disease pressure at all, a one is almost impossible and in reality with the efficacy of the fungicides there is almost basically SFA you can do about it. Good ****ing luck....because THAT is all you can hope for!

                  Take care Ladies and Gentlemen.

SF3 "get a good spray program".
                      That is solid gold advice.

My neighbors claim the sprayer is the most important machine on their farm. They have 3 of them, working pretty steady all year. Their crops look exceptional all year long.
