    GRASSHOPPERS

I got grasshoppers bad what worked on them last year am using pyrinex and used two jugs of decis but cant get anymore. If we could just use deildrin but that isn't possible likely in the end mother nature will have to take its course.

They are eating us alive here too. The worst I have ever seen, even the highway is crawling with them.

The hopper stopper chemical poisons are so gross they are not really an option here. I had heard of something called Nolo Bait that is a biocontrol - essentially a specific to grasshopper disease...used in the US. Does anyone know whether we can get it in Canada? I will try to post this elsewhere in hope that somebody has heard of this.

I'm not familiar with the Nolo-Bait you refer but am familiar with Eco-Bait (Carbaryl and Bran). It is a dry product spread with a blower. Because it is an injested insecticide and is used at low rates, it seems to be less toxic to other animals.

We have had a hopper-fest going on here since 1998. Matador works great before they are flying but be careful when spraying as is wicked stuff. Also have used eco-bait with some success. Hang in there .....

First good thing I have to say about hoppers all year, found some dead ones hanging on wheat heads today. Maybe mother nature will help us out after all and disease the little suckers out before they lay eggs. Only problem is that if only a tenth of them lay eggs there will still be way too many if the weather is suitable next year. We can always hope for a miracle.
