I am looking for some Baler oats seed. Any info would be appreciated. I am also thinking of direct seeding soom oats into 10 year old hay field. I have sprayed the field with roundup this fall. I have never tried this before would be glad to hear from anyone who has.

Baler Oats developed by Crop Development Centre (CDC) at Univ. of Sask... forage oat ... unfortunately, very little data is available as it does not go through the normal registration process .... Quality Assured Seeds is the distributor .... AC Mustang and Foothill are 2 other forage varieties .... AC Mustang is the only one referred to a a dual purpose where it performs reasonably well for grain or forage production (high hull content)
As far as direct seeding oats ... probably one of the better crop choices for forage sod ... providing a good seedbed is crucial and will depend on the seeding unit/opener, how solid the sod is, etc ... Spraying the forage out in the fall is a very good first step
On another note, check soil fertility closely as I often find very low fertility levels following forages unless they've been supplemented along the way
